Three Easy Ways to be an Eco-friendly Parent
Here at Cuddledry HQ we're passionate about our approaches to ethical sourcing and strive to make products that not only are safe to use on delicate skin, but that follow fair and caring social and environmental policies. We believe that every family has a responsibility to protect the world into which our children are growing, and we hope you agree. Being a green parent really isn't as hard as you might think. In fact, there are many ways that you can actively be more eco-friendly- here are just three of them.
Read the label!
This is probably one of the easiest changes that you can make! Your family is precious, so why wouldn't you want to protect them? What you put on your baby's skin is so important. Just as you'd think twice about feeding your little ones lots of preservatives and chemical flavourings, you should also think twice about the products you use on the outside too. Clothes, creams and lotions all come with labels that you need to read. A good rule of thumb is that if you can't pronounce the word, it probably isn't something you want to expose your child to.
When it comes to food, the more natural the ingredients and the shorter the ingredients list the better. Avoid heavily processed foods and preservatives. As for clothes, do your research. Does the company you're buying from have readily available information on how they source their materials? Are they using materials from sustainable crops, responsilbly sourced? If you're not sure, then do some digging. Most ethically minded brands will that that information in a fairly prominent place so that you can make the right decisions for your family.
In an increasingly 'disposible' world, it's heart warming to know that more and more families are starting to recognise the importance of recylcing and re-using as much as possible. 'Upcycling' is becoming more popular- there are so many wonderful new creations just waiting to be made!
Re-using clothes is such an easy thing to do, and choosing garments that you know are going to last can also help to prolong the life of your wardrobe. For example, our handsfree towels are not only made from respsonsibly sourced bamboo (which is also super sustainable and super kind to delicate skin!) but they are also purposefully larger than normal baby towels. This means that they will last longer than other towels thanks to the generous size, thus reducing the need to buy another.
Incidentally, the fact that we make them with bamboo also means they are more durable than other towels, and last longer between washes too, making them an extremely eco-friendly choice overall- a great example of why reading the labels is so important! When you're ready to hand your Cuddledry towel on to another family, you can rest assured it's going to serve them well too.
Make small changes you can build on
We all start somewhere, and often the smallest steps take us on the biggest adventures. If you want to make positive changes towards a greener lifestyle, start small. Opt for home-made baby food and fill your own pouches instead of buying more expensive plastic packages. Switch to BPA free bottles. Reduce your use of plastic packaging overall. Arm yourself with the knowledge of the simple things you can do in order to contribute towards bigger environmental impacts.
